Aya Sofya

We just left Aya Sofya, the Church of Holy Wisdom, commissioned by Emperor Justinian in 537AD to be the largest church in Christendom.  In 1453 it was converted to a mosque, and it has been a museum since 1934.

The interior is impossible to describe, so I will upload a few photos.

Here is the view of it from right outside the cafe where I am blogging.

I'm excited to report that I could upload a couple photos right here at the cafe, onto my ipad.  Finally, simple blogging.

Here are a couple inside shots.  No flash allowed, and I did not have a tripod, so not sure if they will be a bit blurry.  Anyhow, we are off to the Grand Bazaar, which closes at 7, so güle güle!

  1. Totally enjoying your adventures! You could do a tourist show. Istanbul was in the news again last night telling us how the protests have heated up. Had to check on you. Glad to see you are not affected in anyway. I am amazed how the locals have been so accommodating in seeing that you have a safe, interesting visit. But then, God is, of course, watching over you and sending the right people your way. Thank you LORD!
